Coopersburg, PA – Lutron Electronics, the leader in energy-saving wireless lighting and shade control, introduces two new Maestro Wireless in-wall sensors for its Vive simple, scalable, wireless solution. The new, 0-10 V dimmer/sensor model combines automated, occupancy-based control of light, manual dimming control, and wireless communication to other Vive system devices in a single piece of hardware. The sensor/switch model provides manual or automated, occupancy based on/off control as well as wireless communication to Vive devices. Both models are easy to install and can be direct replacements to existing controls in a standard wallbox.

Ideal for retrofit projects including private offices, commercial open offices, and K-12 and higher-ed spaces, the new sensors replace an existing wired device in just minutes. They can communicate wirelessly to Lutron Pico remote controls or other Vive wireless sensors making it easy to add additional wall controls without running new wire. Use the sensors as stand-alone devices or easily connect them to a Vive wireless hub at any time to deliver system features such as timeclock control and energy reporting.

The new Maestro Wireless sensors add a frequently-requested system capability – wallbox sensors that can be easily and fully integrated into a Vive wireless solution. For contractors, the sensors simplify installation, allow them to finish jobs faster, and provide the ability to expand a Vive wireless system as project and customer needs change over time. For designers, the sensors offer a familiar form factor that reduces design complexity and allows them to easily scale designs from stand-alone control to connected lighting control solutions.

  • Combination of creative strategies, innovative products raise the standard of lighting excellence by illuminating the human experience in workplaces, hotels, educational institutions

Coopersburg, PA (May 9, 2019) – In recent years, human centric lighting – a philosophy describing lighting that creates more comfortable, welcoming, and engaging environments for people – has become a widely discussed talking point in the building industry. But differences of opinion regarding its impact and scope have generated discussion among industry specifiers and end users.

Lutron Electronics, the leader in lighting controls and automated shading solutions, believes human centric lighting should promote comfort, enable enhanced well-being, and foster engagement. As Scott Hanna, Lutron senior vice president, says, “High-quality lighting has become an essential amenity in the construction and design industry. It helps attract and retain talent, and creates extraordinary experiences.”

To further those goals, Lutron has created a holistic approach to human centric lighting: Lutron HXL

The Lutron HXL approach combines four elements of lighting design to allow people to be, work, and feel their best: Quality Light, Natural Light, Connection to the Outdoors, and Adaptive and Personalized control.

The approach recognizes the importance of biophilia, a human connection to nature; incorporates the Internet of Things with smart technology; and allows people to manage their environment with a variety of personalized control. Indeed, the four elements of lighting design focus on different aspects of the human experience:

    • Quality light. The impact of quality light can’t be understated. For designers, it can mean the difference between delivering their design intent – such as preserving color or highlighting architectural features – or not. For occupants, it may make the difference between feeling engaged or detached. With tunable white control and high-performance dimming, Lutron quality light technology helps create unforgettable experiences.
    • Natural light.Sunlight, of course, is the standard by which light is measured. The HXL approach maximizes daylight with dynamic shading solutions, which let light in while mitigating glare, and brings it indoors with solutions from Ketra, whose technology provides light that seamlessly emulates daylight in interior spaces. Together, the seamless combination of daylight and interior light feels balanced at any time of day.

    • Connection to the outdoors. The concept of biophilia, which suggests that humans have an inherent desire to connect with nature, has become a central component of architectural design. The Lutron HXL strategy emphasizes window views and uses shades that mitigate glare to promote this relationship.
    • Adaptive and personalized control. The Internet of Things, through automation and connection, is helping to create flexible, dynamic environments that interact with people, support efficiency, and help save energy. Lutron’s approach also leverages smart technology to change spaces for the benefit of the occupants and allows people to shape those spaces with personalized control.

The HXL approach also supports sustainability by helping reduce energy costs and embracing elements of the natural world, and it contributes to design supporting WELL and LEED standards.

Lutron HXL specifics reinforce the innovative design choices that are being made in commercial spaces such as offices, hotels, and college campuses. Hanna explains that a broad-based strategy is key to meeting the needs of the people in these settings.

“The Lutron HXL approach illuminates the human experience,” he says. “The concept of human centric lighting is about creating more comfortable and engaging environments for people. With this approach, Lutron puts the benefits of human centric lighting at the core of any discussion about lighting control and technology.”

The Lutron HXL approach is being presented at Booth #1724 at Lightfair. Visit lutron.com/HXL for more information.

  • With just basic project details, contractors provide clients with on-the-spot lighting control system estimates.

Coopersburg, PA (Embargoed until May 21, 2019)– Lutron Electronics, the leader in lighting controls and automated shading solutions, is helping contractors save time and secure more jobs with quick lighting control estimates for today’s smart buildings. QuEst-D Quick Estimating and Design software is an intuitive, web-based tool that walks you through basic project information to instantly provide a code-compliant, Lutron wireless lighting control solution, project estimate, and bill of materials.

“Contractors are increasingly dealing with labor shortages and compressed project schedules,” said Rick Walsh, Lutron Product Manager. “Lutron Vive wireless solutions simplify installation and setup and now QuEst-D software makes design, bid, and project estimates easier too. With QuEst-D, contractors can help their customers make an informed choice and deliver project estimates with higher confidence.”

Start with just basic project information

With QuEst-D, contractors start by answering basic questions about their project – such as square footage, building location, and project type. The software automatically accounts for regional codes and labor costs then generates, in real time, a suggested bill of material, pricing, and project estimate ready to present to the customer.

Along with one recommended solution, QuEst-D provides alternatives and highlights the benefits and cost of each option. For more in-depth reports and estimates, the contractor can add details about situations, schedules, and code needs. More information results in more specific estimates.

QuEst-D can also be used as a complementary tool with Lutron Designer+ software to layout project specifics on a floorplan and create full submittal reports as the project progresses.

    Enhanced wireless opportunities

Lutron Vive wireless solutions offer simple and scalable lighting control for new and existing commercial buildings and help reduce labor cost while significantly increasing system flexibility. QuEst-D further minimizes risk and simplifies the project process with easy solution comparisons, accurate labor estimates, instant cost comparisons, and code-compliant solutions.

QuEst-D will be available late summer 2019 in the U.S. and Canada at no cost. This is a new, web-based tool that helps contractors be more competitive and more efficient in today’s fast-paced construction cycles.

Visit Lutron at LightFair, Booth 1724 for a preview of the QuEst-D software, or learn more about QuEst-D at www.lutron.com/questd.

  • Coopersburg, PA and Somerset, NJ – Smart bulb users lose control of their smart lighting when a light switch is accidentally turned off. To help prevent this from happening, Lutronis introducing the Aurora smart bulb dimmer, a wireless, battery-powered dimmer that can be mounted directly over a toggle switch, keeping Signify’s Philips Hue smart bulbs and fixturesready for use.

The intuitive, familiar style of the Lutron Aurora dimmer allows any family member or guest in your home to control your Philips Hue lights easily. Simply touch the Aurora dimmer to turn your Hue lights on or off and turn the knob to brighten or dim the lights.

“Lutron is pleased to join the Philips Hue ‘Friends of Hue’ program and offer this unique, wall-mounted smart lighting control that enriches the Hue experience,” said Matt Swatsky, Vice President, Residential Mid-Market Business at Lutron. “Lutron prides itself on aligning with global, best-in-class companies like Signify to improve and evolve the lighting experience. Together, Lutron and Signify are addressing smart bulb user feedback with an attractive and practical solution that locks toggle switches in place to keep smart bulbs ready, while providing an additional point of control. The Aurora dimmer simplifies the use of Philips Hue smart bulbs and fixtures for everyone in the home.”

    Easy Installation and “Always Ready”

The completely wire-free Lutron Aurora dimmer can be installed easily over toggle switches in just two minutes. A dimmer mounting base “locks” your existing toggle switch in the on/up position to help prevent it from being accidentally turned off.

The round knob dimmer snaps directly onto the mounting base, and provides wireless, local control of your Philips Hue smart bulbs and fixtures. The Aurora dimmer is perfect for times when it’s less convenient to use the Philips Hue app to adjust your lights.

And, there’s no need to worry about Wi-Fi outages. Just like the Philips Hue system, the Lutron Aurora smart bulb dimmer operates via Zigbee technology. You can still control your Hue lights with the Aurora dimmer even if the Wi-Fi goes down.

“The Lutron Aurora dimmer is the perfect complement to the Philips Hue system – it offers yet another convenient and familiar way for you to control and enjoy what our smart lighting can do. It also blends in well with any interior design style,” said Jasper Vervoort, Business Leader, Home Systems and Luminaires at Signify. “With Lutron as our new ‘Friend of Hue’, we’re continuing to deliver on our promise of making smart lighting even more accessible to anyone in the home.”

The Lutron Aurora dimmer, available in white, can now be pre-ordered on MeetHue.com,and is expected to ship in June. The Aurora dimmer will also be available for purchase on Amazon.com and in-store and online at Apple, Best Buy and The Home Depot soon.
