  • ConEst’s award-winning electrical estimating software hosted in the cloud,
    giving you the accuracy and accessibility needed to transform your business.

    ConEst today announced its new CE Cloud SaaS solution, offering easy and secure remote access and improved security when bidding, winning and completing jobs. You get all the features of the desktop versions of ConEst’s estimating, takeoff and project management software without any modification in the user interface or experience. CE Cloud simply improves the accessibility and performance.

    “We are very excited to offer the power and flexibility of cloud computing to our customers. CE Cloud provides access to our award-winning estimating, takeoff, and project management suite from any device, anytime, anywhere. An Internet connection and a web browser is all that is needed,“ said Rohn Martino, Director of Sales, ConEst

    Improved Security
    CE Cloud provides much better security than traditional on-premise desktop/laptop computers and servers that reside in your office:

    • Secure Data Centers
      Access control to your data
      Proper backup plan for your systems and data

    Easy and Secure Remote Access
    CE Cloud can be accessed anywhere in the world and by any device such as Windows and Mac computers, Chromebooks, iPads, Android tablets and through Chrome or Firefox web browsers. You can host your ConEst software and data and give your employees remote access to use it on any device of their choice from home or on the go.

    • Software virtualization
    • Server virtualization
    • Team collaboration tools

    Reduce Your IT Expenses
    CE Cloud helps you eliminate administrative tasks associated with managing your desktop lifecycle including provisioning, deploying, maintaining, and recycling desktops. There is less hardware inventory to manage and no need for complex virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) deployments that don’t scale. You will significantly reduce your IT department expenses by moving your entire infrastructure to a fully managed cloud environment.

    • All of your IT is managed behind the scenes
    • No specialized IT skills are required

    “With CE Cloud, data is automatically backed up daily, and the snapshots are kept in a secure offline location to ensure that there is no loss of data in the event of a disaster. Our customers have the peace of mind knowing that their important data is secure,” said Rohn Martino, Director of Sales, ConEst

  • The Construction industry is digitizing rapidly

    Thanks to improved access to broadband internet and the proliferation of mobile digital devices like smart phones, construction professionals are racing to boost their digital toolkits. According to a recent Construction Technology report, businesses in construction are 5% more willing to review software that’s hosted in the cloud.

    What is cloud software?

    Cloud software, or Software as a Service (SaaS) is a method of software delivery and licensing in which a software application is accessed online via subscription. Processing, storage, and data handling is done offsite on remote servers and/or data farms, which are accessible from any place and any device with an internet connection.

    Precious family photos, the playlist for your niece’s wedding, three to five years of your personal tax information. We’ve been storing our personal data in the cloud for a while, and now more and more construction companies are de-centralizing their software systems.

    It only makes sense. Discarding costly data storage hardware in favor of distributed technologies allows workers at construction companies to access digital applications and processes in real time at ever-changing job sites, while ensuring the data is accurate.

    They’re moving to the cloud because the advantages are numerous: time savings, better cost flexibility, reduction in errors and risk, and elimination of a number of manual tasks.

    When should you make the move to cloud software?

    Here are some benefits that are crucial for electrical contractors moving to a digital workflow:

    • Connected job sites: The reality of construction is that every job is a remote work site; the cloud allows you to have a real time connection to the job site from anywhere.<
    • Reduced maintenance: The software provider takes care of upgrades, and continuing support, freeing you to concentrate on what you do best;
    • Scalability: SaaS allows companies to easily accommodate unexpected changes in business volume;
    • Easy data sharing from the cloud: Technology helps connect project team members while also making project data available to those who need it, whether they are working on site, in the office, or in a remote location.;
    • Cost effective: companies don’t have to pay for extensive servers or data architecture

    When considering cloud computing for your electrical estimating software, advantages easily outweigh the drawbacks:

    • Security: It’s reasonable to worry about the security of company data you can’t see or touch, but data stored in a hard drive can also be vulnerable to theft or another setback such as flood or fire;
    • Server downtime: Outages can occur, but they are rare, and most often very speedily rectified;
    • Cost and logistics of migrating data: The company will need to make an investment to migrate data from hard drives into the cloud, and/or for digitizing the company’s records in the first place;
    • Internet Access: Ensure there’s an offline work around or processes in place if your workforce may be deployed to areas where internet access is spotty, for example downloading files and automatic sync.

    Construction specific software is key

    Estimation is a business-critical function for procurement and therefore electrical and general contractors by choosing to purchase construction-specific software, rather than purchasing generic software and making modifications.

    Using Cloud-based software such as CE Cloud means that companies can better manage growth expectations by only paying for the subscription seats that are needed at one time, rather than investing in hardware for employees and for data storage.

  • Database Management is a Key Competitive Advantage

    Electrical and Low Voltage Databases: Comprehensive and Continually Updated

    Competitive advantage

    ConEst’s electrical estimating software helps customers gain a competitive advantage by delivering a comprehensive database which they can also customize to fit their unique business processes.

    Director of Product Development/QA, Allan Goodwin, says that greater knowledge of IntelliBid Software helps customers produce estimates more accurately and more quickly. “The ability to create the assemblies you need and want will get you through an estimate so much faster than trying to hunt and search everything — so that if you do have somebody working on your database for you, you can really get quick at the estimates. That’s the whole idea behind the program is just to get the process done faster.”

    Database maintenance is a constant process

    The team in charge of maintaining ConEst’s database of items and assemblies are former electricians and estimators. Goodwin says that integrating the most recent additions to electrical and low voltage databases is the result of constant contact with customers.

    In 2018, ConEst customer Titan Electric integrated its low voltage and electrical databases into one database as part of an IT overhaul which also included moving its IntelliBid software into the cloud. “Our IT group assisted in getting our database onto the hosted version, but ConEst handled 90% of the issues. They really made it very simple.”

    As of March 2019, the ConEst had 482,675 assemblies and 130,582 items in its database. “We add the items to the database, assign labor used to them, cost codes, subtotals and pictures. Then we put them in the libraries so that they are accessible for the users to take them off and create assemblies for them.” said Goodwin

    Ideally, customers should connect with ConEst monthly or even weekly for pricing updates. Customers who are working on an estimate may also choose to innovate and add items or assemblies as part of the estimation process.

    Titan Electric, based in Itasca, Illinois, provides electrical and communications services in 40 states. CEO Dan Neswold says, “We’re constantly changing our database with regard to our assemblies – once we have assemblies then ConEst will come up with a better way or we get better at it as far as learning the formulas and learning how to use the formulas and such. It’s always evolving.”

    Neswold says everyone at Titan Electric is thrilled with the combined databases, and the company’s operations have run more smoothly and faster since they began hosting ConEst in the cloud. Because IntelliBid is a management tool and not just a calculator, Neswold says he’s assigned several employees to one-on-one training with ConEst. “We’re just going to continue to learn together, between us and ConEst. We’re going to make it easier for the project managers and the estimators to both bid and run work. It’s exciting.”
